BBMP employees strike

September 22, 2014 03:13 pm | Updated 03:13 pm IST - Bangalore:

The work at all offices of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) across the City has been affected on Monday as hundreds of civic agency staff are on strike protesting against the continued deputation of non-KAS officers to BBMP.

The strike call was given by the BBMP Officers and Employees’ Association, which has opposed deputation of non-KAS officials from various other departments to BBMP.

P. sDayanand, president of the Association said that there were at least 10 officials deputed from other departments holding key positions in BBMP. He said rules mandated only KAS and IAS officers could be deputed to BBMP and officials from other departments occupying key positions in BBMP had led to a stunted career growth for BBMP officials.

Four thousand strong pura karmikas and other labourers providing essential services were not part of the strike and their services including garbage collection was not affected by the strike.
