Despite repeated directions, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) have failed to clear the construction debris and garbage dumped in the median below the Namma Metro lines in the city.
During the fourth hearing of the complaint filed in this regard before the Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi here on Friday, BBMP’s representative, who appeared on behalf of BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik, submitted that the civic body would coordinate with BMRCL officials to draw up a plan to clear the debris and garbage within a month’s time.
According to a release from Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), which filed the complaint, Mr. Adi directed the BMRCL officials to coordinate with their counterparts in BBMP in this regard. They were instructed to submit an action taken report by August 14, which is the date for the next hearing, along with photographic evidence. That apart, BMRCL officials were directed submit a compliance report that drinking water and toilet facilities are made available in all Metro stations, with emphasis to differently abled passengers. The BMRCL officials have stated that the all facilities would be provided within two months.
The release also said that a day-long exercise was also conducted on Thursday by B.PAC volunteers, who checked the status of the medians. They submitted over 100 photographs of the garbage and debris that lay uncleared.
“Finally, both BBMP and BMRCL have agreed to work together to clear the medians below Namma Metro,” said Revathy Ashok of B.PAC.
