Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank, sponsors of rural job training programme RUDSETI, on Thursday took stock of the performance of the institute and all its entities across the country.
T.K. Srivastava, Executive Director of Syndicate Bank, said RUDSETIs (short for Rural Development and Self-employment Training Institutes) should extend to a few more states and tie up with industries which can train and recruit unemployed youth.
Canara Bank ED, P.S. Rawat suggested that IIMs, the International School of Business Hyderabad, and IITs can take up case studies of the successful model of RUDSETIs and their contribution to rural economy.
The working of the RUDSETIs, the National Academy of RUDSETI and the Monitoring Cell were reviewed, according to Syndicate Bank.
D. Veerendra Heggade, philanthropist, RUDSETI patron and ‘dharmadhikari’ (‘hereditary administrator’) of the Dharmasthala temple trust, released the annual report of the Monitoring Cell. He observed that the model institute - started in 1982 by the two banks and the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust - has been replicated nationwide in 582 districts by the Ministry of Rural Development through banks.
The meeting was attended by Syndicate Bank’s board of governors and the governing council of RUDSETI, board of trustees and executive committee of the National Academy of RUDSETI and the Monitoring Cell for RSETIs.
The bank chiefs felicitated Mr. Heggade, who recently was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
