Bangalore to host Carnatic Youth Fest

May 15, 2014 12:39 am | Updated 12:39 am IST - Bangalore:

The city is set to witness yet another annual event that underlines its penchant for celebrating the interests of the young. A first-of-its-kind Carnatic Youth Festival, ‘Kalaavanta 2014’, hosted under the aegis of the Karnataka Fine Arts Council (KFAC) begins on May 18. The KFAC is a newly formed trust for getting youngsters to perform and compete for the ‘Carnatic Kalaavanta Award’.

The eight-day fest to be held at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja will witness 14 concerts where young artistes across India will vie for coveted titles in the performance, accompaniment and percussion segments . “We thought that Bangalore should be the hub of the most talented youthgroomed in classical music ,” said M.R.V.Prasad, KFAC chairman.

“Since Bangalore has already set a trend with its Ramanavami melodies, a Carnatic youth fest would be another signature event adding zing to the city’s music patrons,” said Arvind Brahmakal, secretary KFAC. The KFAC would also act as a composite voice in liaising with the Government to organise conferences and institute fine arts scholarships, noted Mr. Brahmakal.

The winners will also get to perform in member organisations of the KFAC.

Special guest, vocalist Abhishek Raghuram, would perform on the final day.
