Bangalore and its neighbourhood were rocked by a tremor on Wednesday following the high intensity earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.

Tremors were felt in Kodigehalli, Yelahanka, Mathikere, Palace Road, Infantry Road and R.T. Nagar, officials of the Met department said.

The tremors were also felt in Hubli-Dharwad region, they said, adding no damage has been reported from anywhere so far.

Metro Rail services in the city were suspended around 2.40 p.m. and passengers were asked to vacate stations, officials said. People rushed to safety from high-rise buildings and offices after tremors hit the city.
