The Karnataka State government will soon form an expert committee to look into the various waste management proposals that have been submitted to it, as well as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

This comes after the Karnataka High Court rapped the BBMP for failing to solve the garbage crisis in Bangalore.

BBMP Commissioner Rajneesh Goel told The Hindu that the government would issue an order regarding the formation of the committee and its members on Saturday.

He said that the decision to form a committee was taken following Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar’s directive to the BBMP to finalise projects soon. The expert committee would take into consideration the various proposals, check the feasibility of the projects and choose the best technologies.

About the impact of Cyclone Nilam on garbage clearance, Mr. Goel said that there were problems at the dumping site. “The backlog garbage has been cleared. There were inevitable problems at the landfill due to rains. With the weather clearing up on Friday, the situation will resume to normalcy,” he added.
