The Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFES) is back after a gap of 19 years.

The festival, which will gives film buffs in Bangalore a glimpse of the best of world cinema, besides national and regional classics, will be held from December 15 to 22.

Till now, the Government had been supporting Suchitra Film Society in organising the festival. From this year, the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA) will organise the event, with Government support.

However, what makes it special is that a ‘Golden Bherunda' (the official emblem) will be given for the best international film in the competition section. A ‘Silver Bherunda' will be given for the best international director. Besides these, there would also be other awards including Asia Cinema Award instituted by Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Chitrabharathi Indian Cinema Award by SFS and Kannada Cinema Award by KCA.

Mr. Rao told The Hindu that the Government had earmarked Rs. 5 crore for the festival and Rs. 2.5 crore had been released.
