An autorickshaw driver, who allegedly stole bags of patients from some city hospitals, was apprehended by a Malleswaram police team.

Thirty bags, including backpacks, ladies handbags and electronic gadgets, were seized from the accused.

Police sources said that Ramakrishna (39), a resident of Shanti Nagar, was nabbed by investigators on Sunday following a probe into complaints of baglifting reported by patients coming to the K.C. General hospital in Malleswaram and Victoria Hospital in Kalasipalya.

“Ramakrishna would drop off patients and wander around the premises of the two hospitals. He had managed to steal bags and other belongings, including cell phones and laptops, from patients, visitors and even a few hospital staff. He has been doing this since 2014,” said an investigating officer.

The probe led investigators to Ramakrishna, who reportedly confessed to the crimes committed at the two hospitals during interrogation.
