Autorickshaw driver, Rizwan Basha (40), was arrested around 2.30 p.m. on Friday for allegedly assaulting a woman in Domlur on April 8 after she questioned him for charging over prescribed fare. Numerous netizens brought it to the attention of the City Police as well as Ola to which the driver was reportedly affiliated with.

On Twitter, Bengaluru Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi has said: “action will be taken the erring staff, after enquiry.” The woman had said in a Facebook post that the driver had dragged her out of the autorickshaw and hit her repeatedly in front of onlookers and even the traffic police. A complaint had been formally lodged at the Indiranagar Police Station on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ola said that though the driver was registered in the Ola platform, the incident happened on a ride not booked through the online aggregator. However, the company has terminated Mr. Basha from their registry.
