An autorickshaw driver was found with his throat slit in his vehicle in Yelahanka New Town on Saturday.

The police said he is Kollegal native Mahesh (30), who lived near BEL Road here.

Passersby noticed him propped up on the passenger seat of the auto near a private hospital in Yelahanka IV Phase around 11 a.m. and called the police.

The police said Mahesh, whose body had been wrapped in a bedsheet, was not wearing his uniform. One side of the auto had also been covered with a protective flap as if to ensure the body could not be spotted immediately. There were no bloodspots in the auto, leading to the suspicion he was murdered elsewhere. The police said as there was no fuel in the auto, it appeared as if the murderers had abandoned the vehicle midway.

The police contacted the autorickshaw owner, Nanjesh, a resident of Lottegollahalli, who said Mahesh had rented the vehicle from him. However, he said he did not know him very well and that he was introduced to him by another auto driver who is also being questioned.

Efforts are on to trace Mahesh’s family.
