ATM attack: victim to be discharged today

The 44-year-old bank manager who was attacked in an ATM kiosk of Corporation Bank at N.R. Square on November 19 will be discharged on Saturday from BGS Global Hospitals.

Jyothi Uday was attacked when she had gone to withdraw cash from the ATM early in the morning. She was struck on the head with a machete and was paralysed on the right side. She also suffered bruises on her face.

The victim underwent a neuro-surgical operation and intense physiotherapy sessions. She was shifted out of the intensive care unit (ICU) at the end of November. Doctors said that the condition of her legs had improved faster than her hands.

Her husband, Uday, has been taking care of her in the hospital while their four-year-old daughter is said to have been under the care of relatives during the course of her treatment.

Meanwhile, the police are still clueless about the assailant’s whereabouts. Recently, they increased the cash award for information on the accused from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.
