A toddler fell to his death from the third floor balcony of an apartment on Bannerghatta Road in Vijaya Bank Layout on Monday afternoon.

Mico Layout police said Poorvaj (2) plummeted to his death as he went after a ball that bounced off the balcony over the railing in a neighbour’s flat.

He had accompanied his mother L. Neelima, who was visiting her next-door neighbour, Swarna Kiran Kumar, the police said.

While the two friends were talking in the living room, Poorvaj and Ms. Kumar’s child were playing with a ball. When the ball bounced and fell over the three-foot railing of the balcony attached to the kitchen, Poorvaj clambered over the railing to go after it and fell over.

Poorvaj’s playmate ran in to tell what happened and the two women rushed downstairs. He was immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 3.30 pm.

Poorvaj was the only child of Ms. Neelima and Giri Babu, an employee of Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab located on Bannerghatta Road. The family, who have been in the city since about four years, moved to Chaitrashree Apartments about a year and a half ago.

Mico Layout police registered a case.
