A 36-year-old lorry driver, Irshad Khan, died on Sunday due to alleged negligence of the Sales Tax Department officials after he had been hit by a car on Doddaballapur Road in Yelahanka police limits.
The police said that the tax officials had flagged down his vehicle to check tax receipts and other documents and Irshad was trying to cross the road when the accident occurred.
According to the police, Irshad Khan, who was driving on Doddaballapur Road towards Yelahanka was stopped. Irshad Khan stopped his truck on the right side of the road and jumped over the median to reach the tax officials who were on the opposite side, the police said. While Irshad Khan was crossing the road, he was hit by the car and suffered injuries, the police added. The police said that neither the car driver nor the tax officials attended to Irshad Khan due to which he died on the spot.
CCB raid
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) Police raided the houses of more than 100 rowdy-sheeters across the city on Sunday morning. They interrogated 34 of them in connection with attempt to murder and murder cases.
A press release here on Sunday said that a special team was formed by the CCB which interrogated those charged with dacoity and extortion also. The police did not recover any weapons during the raid. The 34 rowdy-sheeters have been taken into custody.
Killed in accident
A 19-year-old milk vendor Ajay Thomas was killed on the spot after he was hit by a water tanker on Sunday morning in Kaggadasanapura here. Indranagar police said that the incident took place around 8.30 a.m. when Thomas, a resident of K.R. Puram, was carrying milk in his scooter to distribute it in the area. The police said that the driver of the tanker escaped soon after the incident.
