Body found by parents in the Nellurhalli lake near Whitefield
The body of a seven-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped on Saturday night, was found in the Nellurhalli lake near Whitefield on the outskirts of the city on Sunday morning.
The police said that the girl had been raped allegedly by her father Basavaraju's acquaintance, Nagaraj, 28, a helper at a private workshop in Nellurhalli.
The victim's grieving mother, Mahadevi, said that the girl, a student of a government school, had gone to the Mariyamma temple near their house around 9 p.m. on Saturday after her dinner to collect the temple prasadam.
It was then that she met Nagaraj, who offered her biscuits and sweets, took her to a location near the lake and allegedly raped her.
The police suspected that the girl had become unconscious after being raped and was dumped into the lake by Nagaraj.
The victim is the third daughter of Mahadevi and Basavaraju, a manual labourer, who have been living in Nellurhalli for the past four years.
Basavaraju originally hails from Sangapura in Raichur district.
Their eldest daughter, who is 10 years old, had seen her sister going with Nagaraj and informed her parents about it, said Mahadevi.
When the girl did not return for a long time, the parents filed a missing complaint with the Whitefield Police around midnight.
After filing the complaint, the parents continued their search for the girl overnight.
Early on Sunday morning, they found the body in the lake, said Mahadevi.
She also said that they found many bottles of liquor near the lake.
The shattered parents informed the police and the body was recovered from the lake at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday. The body was shifted to Lady Curzon Bowring Hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, Nagaraj, who had taken shelter in a shed nearby, was arrested by the police.
He was taken to the Whitefield Police Station. Basavaraju said that they did not know Nagaraj well but he had visited them twice or thrice.

When will such atrocities end? Only when the punishment for proven rape of underage children is death by decapitation; in public and in full view of the adult population. No handing over the body to relatives. Do that once and it will strike fear in the hearts of all potential troublemakers. Guaranteed such such crimes will then be things of the past. Not everything can be accomplished through democracy. The Iron Hand is also required in equal measure.
RIP the little girl's soul. Moron deserves more than death sentence. He should be fed to hungry stray dogs.
oh ! really what a shame on ones part .Now a days humanity is going in vain !Every body should know that 'ones body is their own temple' I think the criminal who committed this should be hanged .
He should not just be arrested but hanged up!!! So that these kind of unpleasant and sad things wont take place in future again........
In our India there is lot of cruelty works are increasing but no one responsible for this cruel works. The child she don't know any thing, but devil like man rape her. This very shame to our country. These people are very dangerous,so the Government punish him.
7 Year old kid?!?!?! Cruel guy...The guy is heartless.. He should be hanged to death.
Convicted people in such crimes should be hanged to death.
Arrest the rapist and the murderer and hang him publicly.
Can we have Saudi style punishment if the allegations against Nagaraj were true? I bet the parents of the innocent seven year old whose only crime was being a girl would prefer that.
what's wrong with the people. For humanity's sake.Govt. should take strict move towards such shameful acts. These people should be hanged.
Nagaraj is no better than a brute! People like him deserve a slow and painful death. He must be handed over to the mob who must beat the hell out of him.
Its a pity that the law does not allow torture .. the creatures ( not human) who did this should be subjected to the maximum amount of pain given what they have to done to a little innocent girl and her loving parents. If it were up to me .. I would burn them alive on national television.
This is an heinous crime. The person should be given capital punishment
Yet another example of a cruel legacy.Innocent children are being targeted constantly for sexual harassment. Is not it high time for formulating stringent punishments for the perpetrators of this kind of atrocities ? These kind of incidents keep on repeating one after another. The panacea is the death punishment for the culprits.
government should take the serious action towards those bloody criminals...
It is shameful to all indians. It is one of the to show how Moral values are getting down in society. There is no secure for girls especially. Pray the God not to repeat such incidents.
This is very cruel against the children. Our Government should come out with a very strong law to ensure that these incidents doesn't happen in future. Will the concern Law minister will do his / her duty?
Every day and so this kind of tragedies takes place in numbers . The reason we don't have any strict law against such hideous crime and the accused either gets away or get 3 or 4 years jail term hardly. There should be capital punishment against such crime. Don't know why Rape is not taken seriously by our judicial system and gives only 7 year jail term instead of Hanging such Guys!!
Hang culprits ,there is no other justifiable thing.
please pray for that kid, Police and court should give severe punishment for these kind of persons(like Nagaraj).
This is a very shameful incident. The culprit must be hanged immediately without any mercy and he has no right to live. But it is up to the court to decide what punishment it sought for this type of incident.
how sad, never excuse this type of cruel people, immediately kill them.
Who says hell is a separate entity. Hope our court & police department will deal this ruthlessly and take adequate judiciary measures quickly and firmly so this little girl and her parent get full justice.
very pathetic to hear such cases, condolence to the deceased family. I hope the police will take strict and very harsh action on the accused. May God save this country!
With every day bringing news of unspeakable abuse and trauma, one hopes that the survivors -- often poor -- are not forgotten. In this case, one can only imagine the plight of the siblings, the long-term psychological wounds that they will deal with throughout their lives. The Indian state has failed to provide safety and security to its people. It owes it to them to at least provide the counselling that will undoubtedly be needed to deal with post-traumatic stress.
I think such culprits should be castrated. And the Human activists should not interfere.
In India, no punishment will be given to crimes. People give more importance to stray dogs. If a stray dog is killed it will create big tension. Immediately it will be published in newspapers along with photos. But, if a child is raped and killed, there is no reaction from anyone. To protect(only)stray dogs we have the organisation blue cross in our country. But to protect children......nothing.
it was really sad to say. let us pray for god to give her the freedom in paradise.
the person was a animal .his behave like animal.
Unless and until strict punishments are enforced on rape accused, the rape victims are going to be on the rise. When will a corrected rule come in place to tackle this issue?
the only way to stop these things is to hang to death such persons as soon as possible. no impunity should be shown to such people.
Police should encounter them on the spot don't leave them in public
How strange it is! How this can happen again and again
This is a despicable crime - this person should be given the death sentence.
The poor girl is a victim. Who is the culprit? usually people blame the man who committed the crime and it is correct also. But, the actual criminals are, the Electronic media, our Cinemas and to little extent the print media! They are instigating and pushing the youth to commit the crime. Several years back there were very little crimes like this because, there was no instigating agency at that time, at least not like today. In the name of freedom of expression they defend their crime, and deny that they are responsible. The same Media telecast and condemn such incidences all 24 hours on their channel. Immediate action required is,to revise the IPC to punish the instigators severely. Otherwise it is difficult to control the crime rate.
unless there is a mandatory death sentence law comes in there is chances of reducing this kind of victims.
As Bollywood continues to churn out only sex and sleaze, these kinds of incidents from a diplomat raping his own three year old girl to this shocking incident will only be ON THE INCREASE1 We need stories of real heroes of people going through hardship and coming out of it with grace dignity and decorum otherwise this country will just go down the drain spiritually, ethically , aesthetically and morally.......losing it's original true culture of modest feminine grace and respect for all living entities.
