A fatal accident involving a lorry and a two-wheeler caused public outrage here on Wednesday night. C. Ramakrishna (46), a social worker from Madanayakanahalli in Maddur taluk in Mandya, died of injuries when a lorry rammed his motorcycle in front of the Corporation Bank on Kengeri Satellite Town Main Road at 10.45 p.m.

Local residents rushed Ramakrishna to a hospital where he died. Ramakrishna was a resident of the COD Quarters in Kengeri Satellite Town. Soon after the accident, an angry public converged at the accident site, pelting stones at the lorry and demanding action against the driver. The police, who have seized the truck, are questioning the driver.

Marriage and death

A young woman, employee of a reputed software firm in Pune, hanged herself to death at her friend's home in Nanjappa Layout here in the early hours of Thursday.

Adugodi police said that D. Neelam (25), a native of Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh, came to Bangalore a fortnight ago and was staying with her friend Priyanka. She was apparently depressed over her father, Dileep Kumar, who lives in New Delhi, marrying someone else a few days ago.

Neelam is understood to have conveyed her distress about it to her friends and colleagues in Pune.

She ended her life in the guestroom when Priyanka and her husband were sleeping in their room.

Brawl ends in murder

A labourer was stabbed to death, allegedly by his friends, at a construction site in Hoodi here in the early hours of Thursday.

The police said that Manjunath (35), a native of Byraganapalli in Bangarpet taluk in Kolar district, picked up a fight with Arun Kumar and Satish Kumar, also from Byraganapalli, around 10.45 p.m. Though the other colleagues pacified them, a quarrel erupted again around 12.45 a.m., ending in the murder.

At least 15 masons and bar benders were sleeping at the site when Arun Kumar and Satish Kumar allegedly attacked Manjunath with a knife and stabbed him thrice in his belly, Mahadevapura police said. The two suspects are absconding.
