An eight-month-old boy, who was sleeping at a construction site, was reportedly run over by a goods vehicle when it was being taken in the reverse on the Bangalore University Campus here on Wednesday morning.

The Kamakshipalya traffic police identified the toddler as Ninge Gowda. According to the police, the tragedy took place at the construction site of the proposed IAS-IPS training centre. However, his parents filed the complaint at 6 p.m.

Ninge Gowda's parents had left the sleeping child near a pile of sand, while they were working at the construction site. A goods carrier that was moving in the reverse ran over the boy. Local residents rushed him to nearby a private hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Police have registered a case against the driver, Chandrashekar, and seized his vehicle. The victim's father, S. Gowda of Gulbarga, a migrant labourer, has filed the complaint.

Ends life

A 26-year-old woman from Nepal, mother of three, allegedly ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling.

The Hulimavu police identified the deceased as Kasu Lokesh (26), who was married to Lokesh, who was running a small hotel at Maruthi Nagar in Madiwala.

She ended her life at the residence of a friend, indentified as Karun, a daily wage labourer, in Nyanappana Halli in Hulimavu on Tuesday night.

The police claimed that Karun was a regular customer to the hotel run by Lokesh where Kasu became familiar with him. According to the police, she was reportedly pestering him to marry her. The police said Kasu came to Karun's house on Tuesday evening and picked a quarrel with him on the same issue. His neighbours had to intervene and pacified them. While Karun went to sleep, Kasu allegedly hung herself to the beam in the ceiling with her dupatta, he added.
