Petrol has become dearer by Rs. 3.44 in Bangalore following the price hike decision announced by the public sector oil marketing companies on Thursday.

The fuel was being sold at Rs. 71.38 a litre till Thursday midnight. The price of auto LPG has also been increased by Rs. 2.04, from Rs. 42.82 to Rs. 44.86.

The Bangalore Tourist Taxi Owners' Association criticised the price hike as unjustified and unfair. About 50 per cent of taxi operators run petrol vehicles and the hike will affect them severely, said association general secretary K. Radhakrishna Holla.

Untimely

Many of the operators have tied up with companies on annual contract and they cannot increase fares during the middle of the year, he said.
