The security guard of Corporation Bank ATM was assaulted by two armed men after he apparently tried to thwart their attempt to steal cash from the ATM at Banaswadi in East Bangalore in the early hours of Tuesday.

The guard, Murugan M. (38), was working for Mac Security Services for the past five years.

Murugan was inside the kiosk when the two men barged in and attacked him. The guard was injured on his hand and forearm. He yelled for help, prompting Anna Durai, a fellow security guard at the nearby HDFC ATM to rush to his rescue.

The two attackers fled the scene. Durai called the police, who shifted Murugan to a private hospital.

Murugan is out of danger. The police have recovered a knife dumped by the accused while fleeing.

The Banaswadi police obtained the CCTV camera footage of the attack. The police are also checking whether the attack was the result of personal rivalry.
