A gang of around 14 gatecrashed into a club in Kengeri on Tuesday night and robbed people partying there of their mobile phones, valuables and Rs. 7 lakh in cash. In the process of robbing people, the gang destroyed window panes and damaged furniture and electronic items in the club.

According to the Kumbalgodu police, 25 people were partying at Satellite Club on Kommaghatta Road in Kengeri on the occasion of Varshatadaku, which is celebrated a day after Ugadi. At around 11.30 p.m., a gang of four overpowered the two security guards at the entrance and dragged them into the club premises before closing the main gate. Soon, around 10 of their accomplices entered the club through the back gate.

Then, the gang of 14 men wearing monkey caps and armed with lethal weapons went around the club threatening people with dire consequences if they did not hand them over their valuables.

Satellite Club president K. Puttaswamy said: “A gang of 10 entered the club through the back gate and they were all wearing monkey caps. “The gang threatened people to hand over their jewellery and cash. They also cornered many members, who were playing cards in another room and threatened them.”

The gang then went to the cashier, threatened him and robbed cash.

According to the police, Rs. 7 lakh in cash, 250 grams of gold and a few mobile phones were robbed by the gang that fled the scene from the back gate.

The Kumbalgodu police said that the gang members were allegedly conversing in Kannada, and they suspect it to be a local gang that had made quite a bit of planning before striking.

The Kumbalgodu police registered a case based on the complaint filed by club secretary Manjunathaiah.

The police have launched a search for the gang, and said CCTV camera had not been installed on the club premises.

The two security guards who were overpowered by the gang were identified as Mariswamy and Anand.
