A gang of three armed men barged into the house of a businessman situated in Srirampura in broad daylight, threatened the family members at knife point, ransacked the house and sped away with valuables on Thursday.

The incident occurred at 12.30 p.m. at the house of Ramesh Jain, owner of a electronic goods shop. The gang barged into the house situated on Okalipuram Main Road near Jain temple, with the help of a duplicate key. Armed with knives and lethal weapons, the gang threatened the women that they would be killed if they did not remain silent.

While one of them held the family members hostage, the two others ransacked the house and sped away with the valuables after locking the door from outside. The incident came to light after the three women raised an alarm and called for help. The neighbours and passers-by who rushed to their aid informed the police who visited the spot and carried out investigation. Ramesh Jain had gone to work when the incident occurred.

The Srirampura police rushed to the spot and after preliminary inquiries suspect that someone known to the family could have committed the robbery.

The accused were conversing in Marwari language, a senior police officer said. The police are verifying the CCTV footage from in and around the area to identify the accused.
