The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike on Tuesday honoured 158 people with the Kempegowda Award. Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the State government would celebrate April 17 as Kempegowda Jayanti. Functions will be held at the district level across Karnataka.
The awards seek to recognise contribution to the growth of Bengaluru in various fields. This year, 6 of the awards went to people in the field of literature, 11 in the field of music, 14 in theatre, 20 in media, 6 in films, 3 in medicine, 8 in dance, 9 in education, 28 in sports, 4 in yoga and 5 in the field of culture. 40 awards were presented to people for civic service while four officials were also in the honours list this year.
The award carries a cash prize of ₹25,000.
