Appointment of Sudarshan as KPSC chief to be delayed

December 26, 2014 01:30 pm | Updated 01:30 pm IST - BENGALURU:

The appointment of the former Chairman of the Legislative Council V.R. Sudarshan as Chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) is likely to be delayed by a week.

Official sources in the Raj Bhavan told The Hindu on Thursday that Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala would leave for his home State of Gujarat on Friday and is expected to return to Bengaluru on January 2.

The Raj Bhavan has received the file relating to the Government’s recommendation appointing Mr. Sudarshan to the post. But the Governor is yet to approve it, sources said. It is learnt that the Governor has sought more information about Mr. Sudarshan and other candidates recommended by the government as members of the KPSC. The BJP had objected to Mr. Sudarshan’s candidature saying he is an active member of the Congress. However, sources in the Congress said that Mr. Sudarshan had resigned from the primary membership of the party on December 5 and the party high command had accepted the resignation.
