APMC told to clear garbage in Kalasipalaya in 10 days

August 04, 2012 09:23 am | Updated 09:23 am IST - BANGALORE:

Heaps of garbage greeted members of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Standing Committee on Markets right at the entrance of the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) yard in Kalasipalya during an inspection on Friday.

Malathi N. Venkataswamy, chairperson of the committee, said the garbage might not have been cleared for over two months. “The owners of shops next to the yard complained about the unhygienic surroundings. The APMC staff claimed that they spent nearly Rs. 6 lakh a month on clearing the garbage. But the clearance truck was stationed there and the garbage looked old,” she said.

“At a time when diseases like dengue are on the rise, the surroundings of this yard are a potential breeding ground for epidemics. We have asked them to clear it in 10 days,” Ms. Malathi added.

The BBMP’s Standing Committee on Major Works inspected the Yelahanka zone. They found rajakaluves being encroached upon by major companies, including Manyata Tech Park, Salarpuria and Karle Infra Private Ltd. and issued notices to them. The committee was dissatisfied with the quality of work on the swimming pool being built by the Air Force using BBMP funds.
