Another dengue death in city

July 23, 2010 01:23 pm | Updated 01:23 pm IST - Bangalore:

The city reported another dengue death on Thursday, that of Kaveramma (33), a resident of Cholurpalya near Vijayanagar, in a private hospital here.

According to sources, she had dengue symptoms for the past three days but was hospitalised only after she took a turn for the worse.

Meanwhile, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah called a meeting of medical officers and instructed them to examine the measures taken to control the spread of dengue.

A press release said the civic authority is spraying, fogging and destroying mosquito larvae in vulnerable areas. It said the recent rain led to water collecting even in objects such as coconut shells and discarded tyres, excellent breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

It has also taken up awareness programmes, and is conducting health check-up camps.

Private hospitals have been instructed not to delay in treating those admitted with fever and send blood samples to the National Institute of Virology if dengue symptoms are noticed. The hospitals have also been directed to submit daily reports to the BBMP.

To register complains and report about mosquito breeding in their areas, citizens may call 22660000.
