The condition of Ananthaiah Shetty, the senior citizen who was allegedly tied up and confined to a tiny enclosure on the terrace of his house in Shakambarinagar by his own children, is stable.

Doctors at Jayanagar General Hospital, where he has been admitted for treatment, said he had general weakness and disorientation which could be because of malnourishment following starvation. We also suspect he has some age-related heart problems. So we have sought an opinion from doctors at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences. Except for that he is alright, talking normally and eating,” said Hospital Resident Medical Officer Kishore C Kumtakar.

He said Mr Shetty would require to stay in the hospital for at least four days so that his general weakness and malnourishment is attended to. After that he will be discharged, Dr Kumtakar said.

C N Manjunath, Director of Jayadeva Institute, said Mr Shetty was evaluated for cardiac problems and his heart beat was found to be irregular, known as atrial fibrillation. This apart, he is also suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), the doctor said.

Pointing out that this was nothing major, Dr Manjunath said the irregular heart beat and disorientation could be because of potassium and serum electrolytes deficiency. He has been advised blood tests for further evaluation and will be sent back to Jayanagar Hospital after that,” Dr Manjunath added.
