“I have heard the evenings in Bangalore are cool, so it’s a perfect time for guzzling ghazals,” quipped Talat Aziz, who will present a concert in the city on Sunday.

At the event, ‘Suroor’, to be held at the Indiranagar Club at 7 p.m., Talat Aziz will be performing with Jeetu Shankar for Rotary Bangalore, Indiranagar.

Asked what was on offer — ghazals, light-fusion, sufi or film numbers, the ghazal maestro told The Hindu on the phone from Srinagar, “I will be paying tributes to my guru Mehdi Hassan and my close associate Jagjit Singh, taking up their favourites. I will also have my choice of classic Talat Mahmood hits.”

Talat Aziz had sung some popular ghazals for Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Kumarakom, Kerala, when the former Prime Minister was on a holiday.

“Bangaloreans will certainly be treated to the special sufiana that I composed for Mr. Vajpayee, Vrindavan ke krishan kanhaiyya allah hoo based on Raag Megh and written by Nida Fazli. I will bring back the 1999 memories here, which people in the city have always asked me for,” he said.

Talat Aziz is happy that his radio show, ‘Carvaan-e-Ghazal’ on 92.7 Big FM, has got a good response from the crowd here.
