This veteran artist, who specialises in portraits and realistic paintings, has finished another portrait. This time, 70-year-old Yashwanth Hibare’s dexterous fingers have succeeded in creating the portrait of Deenanath Mangeshkar, father of legendary singers Lata, Usha, Meena and Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle, who died too young at 41.
“I took about two months to complete the portrait of Deenanath Mangeshkar and I will present it to the Mangeshkar family on April 24, which happens to be his death anniversary,” Mr. Hibare told The Hindu .
With his striking looks, Deenanath Mangeshkar himself was a name to reckon with in Marathi theatre. He was a singer and a musician.
“The oil on canvas portrait is among the many that I created in the recent months,” said Mr. Hibare, a member of the Karnataka Lalithakala Academy and Rajyotsava award winner.
On the reason for creating this portrait, he said he was inspired after Ms. Lata Mangeshkar received the Bharat Ratna in 2001. “I conveyed my intention to Ms. Usha Mangeshkar, who invited me for the April 24 function,” he added.
