Noted filmmaker A.M.R. Ramesh of Cynide and Attahasa fame has said that he plans to make a film on the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh.
Ramesh, who is also finalising a script based on the story of IPS officer D. Roopa and scouting location for Asphota in Sri Lanka, said he has shifted his focus to Gauri’s murder.
“I was shocked when learnt about the brutal murder of Gauri. As I knew Gauri closely and I have decided to make a film on her, exploring all possible angles for her killing,” said Ramesh, who has been following the case closely.
“I am looking at the incident from the angle of an investigative journalist,” he added. His intention, of course, is not to exploit the death of Gauri. “It is an humble attempt to get justice for Gauri, who I knew for the past two decades,” said Ramesh. “I still can’t forget the support Gauri extended when Cynide was released. She was appreciative of Attahasa too,” he recounted.
Asked how he can handle three projects at the same time, he said, “Yes, it is a challenging task, but not impossible. There are instances of filmmakers handling multiple projects together,” asserted Ramesh, who is the producer for all his films.
“The script of Asphota in three languages is with Rana Daggubati, who is essaying role of D.R. Karthikeyan. Script on IPS Roopa is almost ready,” he said.
He is hopeful of the case reaching its logical end and culprits getting punished. “I can finalise the script only after the guilty are convicted. Presently, all my attention is on Gauri’s case,” he said.
