Alternative land near Stud Farm yet to be acquired

The State government, which had persuaded the South Western Railway to drop the 435-acre Kunigal Stud Farm from the alignment of the Bangalore-Hassan railway line, is yet to acquire fresh land for the changed alignment.

The original alignment would have divided the farm into two and taken about 12 acres of land.

Bowing to public pressure, the railways had agreed to take a new alignment skirting the Stud Farm entailing an additional distance of 3.7 km and requiring about 47 acres of land.

The government last year promised to acquire the land under emergency clause and agreed bear the entire additional construction cost owing to realignment. Even as the government was planning to issue preliminary acquisition notification, some farmers moved the Karnataka High Court which directed the government to settle the issue amicably and ordered status quo.

No efforts

Sources in the South Western Railway maintained that the government had not made any efforts to settle the issue and acquire the land.

However, officials with the revenue and infrastructure development departments appeared clueless about the developments and were under the belief that the court has ordered stay on the acquisition proceedings.
