An all-woman crew on board national carrier Air India’s early morning flight to Delhi will welcome the passengers on Friday. Bangalore-based Capt. V. Roopa will be in command along with Capt. Niranjana Ashok as co-pilot for the Airbus A 319 taking off from Bengaluru International Airport at 6.15 a.m.
A release from Air India said the all-woman crew has been deployed on several flights across its network on Friday as part of International Women’s Day. Among others, Rita Gurang will be in-charge of the cabin and air hostesses Modanna D’ Souza, Chandni Bhagat and Rajni will attend to passengers and make in-flight announcements. The same crew will operate the return flight leaving Delhi at 9.45 a.m. to land in Bangalore at 12.30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru International Airport will celebrate International Women’s Day by inviting Milan Vohra, India’s first author of a Mills & Boon novel and also author of Tick-Tock We’re 30 . On this special day, the Air Traffic Control department will be managed and controlled by women during the day, a release from BIAL said.
Another service
Also, Meru Cabs, the largest radio cab service provider, will launch SMS-based trip-tracker service. A release said that through this service, an appointed person or a family member of the lady traveller, will be sent SMS alerts about the cab location and journey, thereby ensuring a sense of safety, the release said.
