The Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions working in four State Road Transport Corporations on Saturday urged the managements to allow workers to enjoy their Constitutional right, to have a normal functioning of trade union.
Celebrating the 121 birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar, members of the committee said that Dr. Ambedkar fought for the rights of the oppressed classes. On his birth anniversary, the committee is seeking constitutional rights for trade union activities, they said.
Apart from the right to have trade union, the committee is also demanding wage revision settlement after negotiations with the unions; reversing all victimisation measures, such as forced transfers, suspensions, dismissals and false police cases and to usher in a fair industrial relations framework to redress workers' grievances.
Since the managements of the KSRTC, the BMTC, the NWKRTC and the NEKRTC have failed to address the issues raised by the committee through a charter of demands, a continuous strike, as warned earlier, appears inevitable, the committee said. Workers in all four corporations will resort to strike from April 27, the consequences for which the managements of the four corporations will only be responsible, the committee warned.
