Riding on the success of the total withdrawal of strike by police constables on Saturday, the State government has promised to fulfil all 30 demands of the lower rank police force within the next 45 days.

Thanking the police for calling off the strike and discharging their duties, Home Minister G. Parameshwara said all the demands which have no financial commitments will be fulfilled in the next one week. “The demands which require financial support will be met by the next one to one-and-a-half months. Demands which include financial support will be resolved after discussing issues with the Finance Department,” the Home Minister said.

“We will not disappoint the police who have totally withdrawn the strike,” he said. The government will implement the demands in a time-bound manner to enhance the morale of the police. All 30 demands of the Police Welfare Association will be considered, he said. “Hundred per cent attendance of constables has increased responsibility on the government.” Law and order was normal across the State and the police did not respond to the strike call given by anti-social elements, he said.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested Ramesh Gowda, a civilian, who staged a protest in police uniform at the Ramanagaram Deputy Commissioner’s office. A case was booked against him under Section 171 of the IPC. In another case, Ramakrishna of the District Armed Reserve Police, Mandya, has been arrested for staging a protest.

The police arrested Poornima Shashidhar, wife of Akhila Karnataka Police Mahasabha president Shashidhar Venugopal, and Uma Devi of Shivashakti Sangha at the Freedom Park for staging a protest. Dr. Parameshwara said Mr. Shashidhar has been booked under the sedition Act for instigating the police to plan a strike.

The Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha chief, Vatal Nagaraj, was detained for staging a protest wearing police uniform at the Chalukya Circle in the city.
