An attempt to loot cash from an ATM in Hongasandra early on Sunday morning was foiled, thanks to an alert security guard at the kiosk.

The security guard, even though he was unarmed, helped in the arrest of one of the miscreants. Shahbuddin (32), was working at the SBI ATM kiosk in Hongasandra when the miscreants entered the kiosk around 3.40 a.m. According to his complaint, the accused tied his limbs and sealed his mouth with a plastic tape. However, two police personnel on night rounds, came near the kiosk around 4 a.m. When the miscreants tried to run, the guard caught hold of one of them. Shahbuddhin also used the machete lying nearby to strike the assailant. The police, alerted by the commotion inside the kiosk, nabbed the miscreant, identified as Sandeep (23), a native of Jammu and Kashmir.
