Alert residents averted a rape bid and rescued a minor girl, who was being forced into a graveyard by a gang of five juveniles.

The Ramamurthynagar police, who have registered a case, said the victim was on her way to her relative’s house on Thursday evening when a boy from her neighbourhood offered to drop her. However, he took her to an isolated place and with help of four other tried to drag her into a graveyard.

The victim raised alarm, prompting a couple, who were passing by, rush in to help her. Sensing trouble, the accused fled the scene. The passers-by and residents later handed over the girl over to her mother.

Based on the complaint that was filed, the Ramamurthynagar police tracked down the juveniles and arrested them. They will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee as per procedure, a senior police official said.
