Karnataka’s first state-of-the art air ambulance will be launched soon with the active participation of corporate hospitals.
The new aircraft is tailor-made and equipped with the most-modern intensive care unit on a dedicated chartered aircraft. The goal is to provide critical care even when a patient is in transit, run by a team of doctors, according to Minister of Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader here on Thursday.
With the support 108 ambulances, a dedicated air ambulance would be launched for all emergency services. The government would only act as a facilitator and the corporate hospitals will run it, he said. Issues related to the air ambulance were discussed with a Bangalore-based NGO, and details would be worked out in the next meeting, Mr. Khader said.
Bike ambulanceThe two-wheeler ambulance will be demonstrated during the legislature session in Belagavi in December. It has a first-aid kit for the rider of the vehicle to provided medical care to the patient before shifting him/her to a four-wheeler ambulance, he said.
Mr. Khader said his department has recommended ban on sale of tobacco chewing products and loose sale of cigarettes to contain tobacco-related diseases, including cancer. But the State government will take a decision on it after the verdict in the Supreme Court which is hearing a petition on the issue next month.
