After fulfilling the requirement of posting security guards outside ATM centres, banks have sought police permission to reopen the kiosks.
City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar gave the banks 45 days’ time to install CCTV cameras and alarm systems in the ATMs and communicated the order to banks on Thursday.
Bank representatives have already approached the City Police Commissioner’s office requesting that their ATM centres be reopened following the implementation of the security directives.
They have been asked to approach the local police for inspecting the kiosk and endorsing the security measures implemented.
So far, 1,137 ATMs have been closed down. Once the security requirements are fulfilled and are deemed satisfactory by the jurisdictional police, they will be allowed to re-open. However, the police have not confirmed if any ATMs have been re-opened in the city.
