An investigation into the death of a 24-year-old habitual offender, whose body was discovered at Trinity Circle on Monday, led the police to close another case of theft.

Syed Imran was the victim of a road accident.

“Our probe revealed that he was run over by a car after he committed a crime and was escaping,” said the police.

It was initially thought that he had been murdered by his associates. After analysing the CCTV footage, the police learned that Imran was with his friend, Nayaz, before his death.

Nayaz was detained and during the interrogation he told the police that they had snatched a cellphone from a taxi driver near Silk Board Junction from where they headed to M.G. Road on Imran’s motorcycle.

They allegedly parked the bike in the middle of the road earning the wrath of a mini-van driver who confronted Imran and asked him to move the vehicle to the side.

In his statement to the police, Nayaz said that Imran started abusing the driver. The driver tried to leave but Imran allegedly chased him on his bike, and grabbed hold of the four-wheeler from behind.

He lost control over his bike, which skidded and toppled in the middle of the road. Before Imran could recover, he was run over by a vehicle.

“Nayaz followed him and found Imran lying in a pool of blood and called an ambulance before escaping from the scene,” said the police.
