A 22-year-old woman, who was allegedly set ablaze by her colleague at his residence in Hebbal on Tuesday, succumbed to injuries in Victoria Hospital in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased S. Pavithra, a resident of Srirampuram and a supervisor at a leather factory in Goraguntepalya, had suffered 93 per cent burns and was rushed to the hospital by neighbours.
The accused Bharati, a manager at the same factory, had allegedly doused her with kerosene and set her on fire.
On Tuesday morning, Pavithra had gone to Bharati’s house on Guddadahalli Road in Hebbal where he had asked her to come. However, the two had a bitter argument following which she was set ablaze. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed on Thursday.
Though Bharati told Pavithra’s family that he had an affair with her, the deceased’s family denied the affair and accused him of harassment at the work place.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused Bharati with the Hebbal police. Pavitra’s statement had been recorded in front of DCP (North) Sandeep Patil and the jurisdictional tahsildar. Police officials said that Bharati also sustained 30 per cent burns including his arms and face and is admitted to hospital for treatment. “Only after his recovery, we can arrest him and continue investigations”, a police official said.
