A 28-year-old budding artist from the Kannada film industry is being investigated by the police for allegedly faking a robbery at Basaveshwara Nagar on Tuesday night.According to Vikram Karthik, seven men intercepted his car on Water Tank Road, assaulted him and drove away in his car with his mobile phone and wallet, which had Rs. 50,000 as well as some ID cards. He got himself admitted to a private hospital with the help of a few passersby. The hospital staff alerted the police.

Karthik told investigators that the incident occurred while he was returning home after dropping off a friend.

Based on his complaint, the police surveyed the site of the alleged robbery, spoke to residents, and verified footage from CCTV cameras in the area. “A detailed investigation revealed that Karthik’s vehicle collided with a car parked on the roadside. When the car owner confronted him and threatened to file a case against him, Karthik promised to reimburse him for the repair work. He handed over his car keys and his mobile phone as surety and walked away stating that he would return with the money,” said the police, adding that he went straight to a private hospital and got himself admitted.

The police later tracked down the owner of the damaged car who handed over Karthik’s car keys and mobile phone.

The police are waiting to question Karthik who is in the hospital, and are contemplating taking legal action against him for filing a false complaint.
