Kannada film actor Chetan Kumar of Aa Dinagalu fame has alleged police high-handedness and petitioned Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi to intervene and take suitable action.
Mr. Chetan alleged that Cubbon Park police sub-inspector Naveen Kumar had assaulted and humiliated him over a trivial issue on January 24 in Church Street.
He said while he was standing with his friends in front of a parked car, the officer approached them and asked them to leave in a rude manner. “When I objected to his behaviour, heated arguments ensued and he slapped me and assaulted me repeatedly,” he alleged.
The actor claimed that the sub-inspector again slapped him in the police station the next day when he went to file a complaint. “He was demanding an apology from me, while I was the one assaulted and humiliated,” he alleged. While Mr. Chetan has lodged a complaint of physical assault, Mr. Naveen has filed a counter complaint alleging that the actor had obstructed him from delivering his duties. “Even after two days, no action has been taken. This forced me to approach the Police Commissioner,” he said, after meeting Mr. Reddi on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil told The Hindu that the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cubbon Park) was entrusted with the case.
