Acid attack on two children

Acid was thrown on two brothers, aged 4 and 10, when they were playing in a ground at K.R. Layout in Tiptur town of Tumakuru district on Tuesday.

Dashavanth, 10, and Vinay, 4, who stay at Jaipura Mallenahalli in Tiptur, were attacked by a group of unidentified persons. Anand, the father of the children, told the police that on Saturday when the children were playing in the playground, a group of youths had told them not to play there as it was only for “adults”. They had shouted at the children and forced them out of the playground. The children then complained to their father, who then tried to trace the youths.

However, on Tuesday, around 9 a.m., when the children were playing in the ground, the same group of around seven people came on cycles and threw acid on the children.

The two sustained injuries on their face and are being treated in the Tiptur government hospital. Even though the liquid covered their faces, the acid was diluted and did not cause severe burns.

‘How did they get acid?’

“What has happened to my children should not happen to anyone else. How did they get access to acid? It is depressing to see my children suffer for no fault of theirs,” Pusha, mother of the victims, told The Hindu .

“My elder son is ready to identify those who threw acid,” she said.

Based on the inputs of Dashavanth, who described the attackers as wearing jeans and talking in Hindi, the Tiptur police are attempting to trace the group.
