Officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Tuesday, raided the house of District Officer, Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department, in Kolar and recovered Rs. 4.3 crore in cash and gold valuables weighing 290 gm, along with documents of movable and immovable properties from him.

The raid was conducted based on a complaint filed by a contractor who bagged an e-tender to supply food grains to the hostels run by the Minority Department.

The accused officer N. Venkateshmurthy had demanded Rs. 10 lakh bribe to sign the tender order and had even taken Rs. 5 lakh bribe as an advance, ACB sources said. When the contractor went seeking the required documents, ACB sources said Dr. Venkateshmurthy demanded the remaining bribe amount.

The contractor then approached the ACB, following which a team of police raided the house and caught him red handed while accepting the bribe. The officials searched his houses in Kolar and Chickballapur and recovered the huge cache of money, gold ornaments and documents. All these, sources added, were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Dr. Venkateshmurthy has been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act and remanded to judicial custody.
