The Kannada film industry put up an impressive rally at different cities to show its solidarity to the State-wide bandh on Saturday. However, prominent actors were conspicuously absent.

Puneet Rajkumar, Shivarajkumar, Prem and Jaggesh were the only stars who took part in different protests across the State.

Cinema halls were shut until 4 p.m. and production related activities were suspended.

While Puneet Rajkumar and Prem participated in the rally at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, Puneet’s star brother Shivarajkumar joined a rally held in Mysuru. Jaggesh, who led a rally of Kannada activists at Tumakuru, regretted “the lack of leadership in the Kannada film industry”. He recalled Dr. Rajkumar’s participation in various movements including Gokak agitation of the 1980s.

In the city, hundreds of technicians affiliated to the Karnataka Chalanachitra Karmikara Kalavidara Tantrajnara Okkuta joined the rally.

No writers

The protesters were upset by the non-participation of litterateurs. Chandrashekara Patil (‘ChamPa’) was the lone writer seen at the rally.
