A double barrel gun, which was found abandoned at the railway station here on Sunday morning, caused panic among people.

On noticing the gun left on the platform at the station, some regular morning walkers alerted the police.

The Railway Police rushed to the spot and seized the gun. “The gun was empty,” Railway Police Sub Inspector T. Krishnappa told The Hindu, adding that investigations will reveal details about the owner of the gun.

The gun was said to be used for hunting and it was suspected that it was abandoned on Saturday night. The holder of the gun reportedly fled abandoning the gun on seeing the beat police officer at night.

The locals also complained that some people had converted the railway station into a drinking adda during night and urged authorities to take steps to stop this. Lack of security at the station is a cause of concern, the locals said.
