Members of the Karnataka Advocates’ Society has criticised the signature campaign launched by the Aaam Aadmi Party (AAP) to start impeachment proceedings against Justice K.L Manjunath of Karnataka High Court.

Justice Manjunath’s name has been recommended by the Supreme Court’s Collegium to transfer him as a Senior Puisne Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Chairperson of the Judicial Accountability Committee, High Court of Karnataka, Pramila Nesargi said that the allegations leveled against the judge in question, that he owns several immovable properties, are baseless. She said the attempt made by members of AAP for impeachment against Justice Manjunath was nothing but an attempt to scandalize the judge and judiciary. It was done with an intention to bring down the reputation of the judiciary and questioning the integrity of judicial system.

Ms. Nesargi has appealed to the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda to look into the matter and urged to contact fellow Members of Parliament including Lalu Prasad and others to desist from thes signature campaign. She also urged MPs from the State to join hands irrespective of the party affiliation and defeat the impeach motion if moved in the Lok Sabha.
