The Aam Admi Party activists, who have been on an indefinite strike for eight days demanding scrapping of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, broke their fast on Wednesday after they were detained at Freedom Park.

Six activists were detained, along with 100 others, when they set out on wheelchairs to lay a siege to the CM’s residence. They said they resorted to it as no one from the government came visiting them at the Freedom Park.

“It is highly condemnable that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who came to power piggybacking on the anti-corruption plank, thanks to Lokayukta, has today weakened the institution and rendered it toothless,” said Ravi Krishna Reddy, who was leading the protest and was on a hunger strike.

He said they called off the strike on the advice of H.S. Doreswamy and Santosh Hegde. “We may have lost the battle, but we have won the war of perception in the eyes of the people,” he said.
