Even before the grand Dasara festivities end in their town, Mysoreans and visitors will be treated with exquisite wines from the vineyards in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
For the first time in Mysore, an exclusive Wine Fest is being held from October 18, offering a glimpse of the State’s wine industry.
As many as 16 wineries from Karnataka and Maharashtra are expected to participate in this three-day festival featuring only fruit wines and not the fortified varieties.
Tourist season
Besides the sale of wines, the festival will feature grape stomping, wine tasting and food pairing.
“The festival has been planned during this season when Mysore will get a large number of tourists. As it is holiday time, we expect more visitors. The entry is free,” Karnataka Wine Board managing director B. Krishna said.
The industry with stagnant sales in the last two years is hoping that the festival would showcase new and tested labels to a new market.
About 1.44 lakh cases (nine litres per case or 12 bottles) were sold during 2012-2013.
Quality wines
“The festival is coming at the commencement of the wine season in the State and we hope it benefits us. Tourists from various regions will come to Mysore and we can introduce them to wine,” chief executive officer of Surya Wines M.G. Robin Somaiah said.
Most top wineries have confirmed their participation and the festival is expected to be a good platform for wine connoisseurs, he added.
