Thirty-one students studying from Class 8 to 12 bagged prizes at the State-level quiz competition on financial literacy organised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Bangalore office, on the occasion of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Students said the competition — held in both Kannada and English — had created awareness among them about current account, savings account, fixed deposit, pass book and so on.

Aditya H.N. and Harish M.C., Class 9 students of the Government High School, Holekoppa, Sringeri, Chikmagalur district, said they prepared for the competition in Kannada for the last two months and bagged the first prize in the school category (classes 8 to 9). Prajwal Kashyap and K.S. Shivaram of St. Joseph's High School, Hassan, aced the English medium category.

They said they studied four textbooks given by the RBI and won competitions which helped them sail through at the taluk, district and State levels.

Accompanied by their teachers, they told reporters here in Bangalore on Monday that the RBI had deposited their prize money (Rs. 7,000 each for the toppers) in their bank accounts.

In the contest held for Class 10 students, Shantaveer and Sridhar of the Government High School, Rodalabanda, Raichur, bagged the first prize in the Kannada medium category while Akash K. and Neelima K. Kamath of the Srimad Bhuvaneshwara High School, Karkala, topped the English medium category.

In Class 12 category, Mahamaya S. Kamat of Durgadevi P.U. College, Kerwadi, Karwar, walked away with the first prize in the Kannada medium category while Neelam Jain and Spoorthy V. Acharya of the Vishwamanava P.U. College, Kommerahalli, Mandya, won in the English medium category.
