A feast for inquisitive minds

February 01, 2014 12:00 am | Updated May 18, 2016 05:11 am IST - BANGALORE:

A miniature model of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) at the stall put up by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was the star attraction at ‘Pravega’, the science and technology festival of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) here.

The fest, which was kicked off at the IISc. campus here on Friday, will go on till February 2. The festival, for which The Hindu is the media partner, has the theme ‘Exploring the frontiers of science’.

There were 1,000 registrations on the first day. Organisers said invites had been sent out to 600 colleges in India. As many as 500 students took part in workshops that offered internships as prizes.

Among the 20 stalls put up, the ones by defence organisations and another by a private 3D printing firm grabbed the most eyeballs.

A presentation by N. Balakrishnan, associate director, IISc., threw light on social media trends, perception and management. IISc director P. Balaram and Jens Cattarius, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz R&D India were present.

Akash Parvatikar, an engineering student from R.V. College of Engineering, said the ambience of the campus, the impressive line up of speakers, and the interesting workshops drew him to the fest.
