A 35-year-old advocate, who was with a friend in her car near Acharya College on Hessarghatta Road, was shot dead allegedly by a family member of the woman on Friday. The woman rushed the profusely bleeding advocate to a hospital and later committed suicide at a lodge nearby, according to the police.

The police identified the deceased as Amith Keshavamurthy, son of an advocate in Nelamangala, and his friend Shruthi Gowda (32), who worked as a panchayat development officer at Gollarahalli on the city’s outskirts. Amith, who had studied law in the U.K., was assisting his father after returning to India.

The police said it was still not clear who pulled the trigger. Shruthi’s husband Rajesh (35) and his father, Gopalkrishna (78), had tracked Shruthi’s car that was fitted with a GPS device and accosted the two around 3.30 p.m.

Rajesh is into real estate business and is also a gram panchayat member, the police said.

The father-son duo surrendered before the Soladevanahalli police later. Both were claiming before the police that they had shot at Amith using a licenced revolver held by Rajesh.

The police said Shruthi, who was taken by surprise at the turn of the events, rushed Amith to a hospital and left the premises in a hurry.

The doctors who examined Amith found him dead and alerted the Peenya police.

An hour later, Rajesh and Gopalakrishna went to Soladevanahalli police station narrated the entire incident and surrendered.

The police began searching for Shruthi by tracking the GPS device. They found her car parked near a lodge in Hessarghatta. The police said they found her lying dead on the bed in a room.

They suspect that the dupatta she had used to hang herself could have given away.

While Amith was married and had a son, Shruthi and Rajesh have two children. Amith and Shruthi’s alleged relationship had led to clashes in both the families, according to the police.

The Soladevanahalli police, who had detained Rajesh and Gopalkrishna, have taken up a case of murder and suicide.
